Another movie day!
Posted by tmz_99 on October 21st, 2005 filed in UncategorizedYay, another movie day..
Funnily enough today has been a huge day aside from the movies, my settlement day on my land was today, my extension was not approved so now I am running on 3 days grace before I start accumulating penelty interest. What a royal pain in the ass.
Mr & Mrs Smith
Awesome movie, acting from both the main actors was great, hardly surprising that they are now together. More chemistry then Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman in Eyes Wide Shut (well.. there wasn’t much chemistry between those two in that movie becasue they spent most of it fucking other people.. ).
Action was well paced and the special effects and cool gadgets reflected it’s box office push.
What appealed to me was the fact here is this couple who love each other for more then the sum of their parts as evidenced by their continuing love even though they find each other very much at odds. Also the conflict scenario and subsequent resolution appealed to me. This is how relationships should be, with plenty of life, zest and yet the uncanny ability to work out these differences at the end of the day and recognise one another as individuals. Far apart from the usual hollywood bullshit romantic comedy this movie gets a resounding 8/10
Sin City
This highly styleised movie brings the comic genra to the big screen like no movie has ever done before. It’s black and white style with splatterings of colour is masterful and would likely not work in another movie. In fact, any movie that will now adapt this style will be compared TO this movie, which goes a long way for showing it’s orginality.
However, as we all know originallty does not beauty make, just look at the platypus for proof.
In this case, it does prove true. The movie is quite the epic, it feaures over the top violence, sex and language; all to good effect.
Sin city practically sucks you in, into this unbelivable world that suddenly becomes your new reality. The city, storyline and charachters not so much jump out at you as they suck you in.
9/10

I loved Sin City as well – definitely setting a new style in movies..thank goodness for some originality.
I liked your review on Mr & Mrs Smith – I hadn’t seen it figuring it was going to be pretty mainstream cheesy but might have to check it out now.
