A deserted rig and a hot summers day

Well… this isn’t my experience, rather a story re-told.
A friend of mine was recounting his experience of being one of only two men left on an oil rig for 29 days in Egypt. The rig company (and I can only assume it was ENSCO) put the rig about 100metres from shore and left it there for collection in 29 days time, so my friend and the electrician were left on the rig alone. All ladders were cut and hoisted up so that people could not board the rig during the night and the wait begun.
The company only allowed them to use electricity for 1hr a day (as it was based on generators) and forbade them from doing any work in case any injuries occured.
What they did have was cards, plenty of canned foods, a motorboat and the shore so close that they went there every 2-3 days, bought a carton of beer and plenty of ice and set back and drunk on the heli deck. In fact, the weather was so hot, they slept on the helideck too…
Ideal sistuation for a holiday I think.

thats gold

Here’s a pic from my rig, I’m not in it..:) (I was asleep). It was supposed to go up on some TV show… instead it ended up here. 🙂
